More Ohio families are suffering from hunger - one of six households are unable to afford enough food.

A new reports suggests Ohio may have more people suffering from hunger than most states.

The study through the Anti-Hunger Group Food Research and Action Center indicates Ohio is a top 20 contender for food hardship- with 1 in 4 families unable to afford food in the past 12 months. Local government officials are lending a helping hand to feed seniors in our area.

As a part of the national March for Meals campaign, the Muskingum County Commissioners along with Zanesville Mayor Butch Zwelling, assisted the Muskingum County Center for Seniors in passing out meals to the elderly on Wednesday. Executive Director Terry Dunn said the goal is to raise awareness about senior hunger.

Fighting hunger is the name of their game, and following a year of providing food for the community, it was a time to recognize those who help.

A local campaign is kicking off to stamp out hunger in Muskingum County.

Members of Operation Feed gathered at the Zanesville Civic League for a lunch meeting and collected cash donations and non-perishable food. Carol Morgan with the Muskingum County Center for Seniors hopes they can give hunger the boot in 2010.
