Kids in our area help kids left victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Monday at, Bishop Fenwick Middle School, a check of $2,100 was presented to students who helped make and sell noodles to raise money for those left in the wake of the hurricane. The money goes to Kids in Distressed Situations, based in New York City. They organization will take the money and turn it into $21,000 in product.

After spending the last week collecting Hurricane Sandy Relief Items, the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office is ready to leave for the East Coast.

Two sheriff's deputies, streamlined the efforts, reaching out to businesses around town for supplies. The Muskingum County Sheriff's Office is collecting items to deliver to those impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

The idea to help the people hit hardest by the storm came from June's weather that left thousands in our area and Ohio without power. Deputy Jay Lawhorne remembers the help he received and those who came to his rescue when he was without power . Now he and others want to return the favor.

The huge storm known as Hurricane Sandy is speeding up and will make landfall on the east coast Monday night.

The storm brings with it powerful, damaging winds, potentially flooding rains, and will even drop snow on some areas. Muskingum county Emergency Management Agency Director Bo Keck says he's been in constant contact with city, county, and state agencies, the National Weather Service, and local power companies in preparation for Sandy's wrath.

Riesbeck's Pick'n Save on Howard street in Zanesville is prepping for the effects of Hurricane Sandy.

Assistant store director Steve Fusner says the store has already started ordering the items that fly of the shelves in the wake of a storm.

"We really haven't noticed an increase yet, but we look for it coming." said Fusner. "We've stock-piled on vegetables and milk and eggs, and have a delivery of ice coming."

The death toll mounts as Hurricane Sandy hits the Bahamas, Caribbean and Jamaica.

The storm has knocked out power, flooded roads and downed trees. It's also put the Red Cross on alert.

The organization has opened shelters in the wake of the hurricane. It's also affecting our local Red Cross, who's on stand-by for deployment.

Executive Director Marlene Henderson said that the Red Cross has placed all of the emergency response vehicles on stand-by so they can be deployed...
