A Japanese news crew came to Zanesville as part of a tour across Ohio.

They're here to learn more about political advertising in the United States.  The broadcast media in Japan is highly regulated.

"Our TV station is a public TV station," said Daisuke Yamaguchi.  "It's very unique.  It's like BBC.  Our stance is basically neutral."

One area class is hoping to help with disaster relief for Japan.

Students from the Administrative Assistant Program at the Mid-East Career and Technology Center were collecting emergency supplies to send to victims of the tsunami and earthquake in Japan.

"Japan has no resources to get anything right now, nobody in nobody out, that kind of thing so we're trying to get what we can over there to help them, they have nothing," said Kayla Lloyd.

It's been one week since the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan, and one Zanesville man is biking 3,000 miles to help the victims.

The Barn's bartender, Daniel Rose, is taking donations for the victims in Japan, while he bikes his way through Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Along his journey, he will be asking for donations for blankets, so he can have them sent over to Japan. Local Daniel Rose says this mission is extremely important.

Japan's Prime Minister is calling the devastation of the recent tsunami the worst crisis since World War II.

The 8.9 magnitude earthquake that caused a tsunami to strike the island of Japan is leaving behind mass destruction. Reports show that nearly 10,000 people are believed to have died. Muskingum University Geology Professor Stephen Van Horn said the country is the most emergency prepared to deal with something this catastrophic.

The American Red Cross is ready to provide assistance for Japan during this time of devastation.

The Japanese Red Cross has already deployed 11 national disaster response teams to conduct assessments of the damage around the country.
