Nothing completes a family like a new pet and no one knows that better than the local animal shelter.

The Muskingum County Animal Shelter is hosting an adoption event this Saturday at We Love Pets in Zanesville. The event will last from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and the community is invited to come find a new addition to your family. While holiday parties and fireworks can be fun for people, four legged friends aren't so keen on the celebrations.

A local animal expert says that the 4th of July holiday is one of the highest rated weekends for lost pets. The animals aren't used to the loud noises that fireworks make or the large crowds of people and can experience anxiety.

The Animal Shelter Society in Muskingum County will be hosting an adoption event at We Lov Pets this weekend.

Each week, The Animal Shelter in Muskingum County highlights a pet available for adoption.

This week, Lynard is in need of someone to give him a good home. He is a 1 1/2 year old English Bulldog and Beagle Mix. He's very playful, full of energy and does very well with other dogs. The Animal Shelter in Muskingum County wants you to come out to their second annual Family Fun Day.

The shelter's Executive Director Jody Murray said they had a great turnout last year, and with the nice weather expected, this year's fun day should be even more fun.

The Animal Shelter wants everyone to be able to shout out "Bingo."

The MASS Bingo Hall on West Main Street reopened to the public in March. Since that time the Animal Shelter Society's been working to reinvent the facility connecting it more to the shelter.

One hundred percent of the proceeds stay in the county to help the shelter keep the costs of adoption and wellness clinics low and allow the shelter to continue to provide other services to the community.
