Proper vehicle maintenance is always important, but that's especially true following a harsh winter.

The AAA Auto Club is expecting 43.4 million Americans to be traveling this Thanksgiving, including 1.68 million Ohioans. AAA Spokeswoman Kimberly Schwind, says that's a decrease of 1.5 percent nationally and 1.7 percent in Ohio. Although it's a small decrease from last year's numbers, Schwind says the number of travelers has been gradually climbing since the recession. Hunting season starts Saturday and that means drivers need to pay close attention to the roadways for deer.

AAA Spokeswoman Kimberly Schwind said there were about 21,000 collisions with deer in Ohio in 2012 alone, with 5,000 of those accidents happening in November. And there are three main reasons for the increase.

AAA Auto Club was at Maysville High School this afternoon to inspect students vehicles and to discuss safe driving practices in order to keep them safe behind the wheel.

More than 100,000 crashes every year involve drivers who are texting.

Triple A and AT&T spoke to students at Ohio University Zanesville about the dangers of texting. The Triple A Foundation for Traffic Safety found that 61 percent of drivers 16-24 years-old admitted to texting while driving, compared to 35 percent of the general driving population.

Florida is one of the top destinations for spring break goers according to Triple A.

The AAA Foundation of Traffic Safety has some concerns with the findings of a recent survey.

Soon travelers will be taking to the skies and roadways all in an attempt to make it home for Christmas.

AAA said that 84.4 million travelers nationwide and 3.2 million Ohioans will take drive to their holiday destination. The auto club estimates that they'll come to the rescue of at least 15,000 Ohioans in their 38 county territory between Saturday and January 1st.
