The Knights of Columbus are celebrating Valentine's Day by helping the mentally ill in our community.

The Knights of Columbus and the National Alliance on Mental Illness 6-County are having their second annual Valentine's Day Celebration on Feb. 15. Eastside Community Ministry and The Knights of Columbus #505 are working together again this winter season to keep older children warm.

Youth Program Director, Joey Osborn explains that typically there are plenty of used coats for younger and smaller children, but older kids and teens are often left with nothing.

"So they always take the list of our ten oldest kids, and get them nice brand new coats for every winter, so that they are good and warm," said Osborn.

On Wednesday, 60 lucky elementary students got the chance to meet Santa, Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman.

Every year, the Zanesville Kiwanis Club holds a Christmas party for area students who need a little extra holiday cheer. Bridget Tetack, co-chair for the club's Youth Services Committee, says the reaction the students had while meeting Santa was priceless.

Mark your calendars for February 9th for a Valentine's Dinner and Dance celebration.

Doors will open at 6 PM and an Italian feast will be served at 6:30 including live music. A little rain couldn't stop the Lorena Sternwheeler from making a trip down the river.

Every year the Knights of Columbus organize a dinner cruise for hospitalized veterans.  Organizer Bill Moyer said the delicious meal keeps them coming back for more.

"Dinner is going to be mashed potatoes, chicken, noodles, peas and rolls with butter," said Moyer.  "We enjoy doing it as much as these guys enjoy being here."

On Sunday the K of C will be hosting the 28th annual Ladies Knight Out. Co-chairman Tom Sullivan said that the event is a great way to show that special someone how much you care.

It might not be Veterans Day, but those who served our country were honored at Zane's Landing Park today.

The Knights of Columbus organized a dinner cruise aboard the Lorena Sternwheeler for hospitalized veterans.  Chairman Bill Moyer said the veterans enjoy homemade food and good company.

The public is invited to enjoy a delicious brunch this weekend and also help out two organizations who provide services for those with special needs.

Some local adults got the chance to feel like kids again this evening. The Kiwanis Club of Zanesville hosted a corporate pinewood derby race at the Knights of Columbus, Sunrise Center. The event served as a fundraiser to support Kiwanis's child-oriented programs.
