A Perry County landfill is trying to advance green energy in the area.

Senior District Manager of Waste Management at the Suburban Landfill in Glenford is announcing the groundbreaking of a new facility. It will turn methane gas, which comes from waste in the landfill that decomposes, into electric. That electric is expected to service more than four thousand homes in Ohio.

Construction is planned to be completed with the facility fully-operational by the end of this year.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is asking Perry County citizens for their input on a landfill expansion in New Lexington.

It received a request from Tunnel Hill Partners to add 69 acres to the property, located at 2500 Township Road 205. It already occupies close to 550 acres. The company is also asking to receive more air space and to increase the maximum daily waste receipt to around eight thousand tons. That increase would enable the landfill to fill up in about 12 years....
