The Granville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol announces that an OVI checkpoint will take place in Licking County Friday evening...

The checkpoint, funded by federal grants, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers. The patrol says based on provisional data, there were 309 OVI-related fatal crashes, in which 341 people were killed in Ohio last year.

The exact location of the checkpoint will be announced Friday morning.

Licking County is reporting its first signs of  West Nile virus in mosquitoes.

The Licking County Health Department reports that one pool of mosquitoes collected from traps on Valley Boulevard in the Village of Hanover has tested positive for West Nile virus.
 

Health Department Officials will be spraying the area Monday in addition to their regularly scheduled mosquito spraying.

The Ohio Department of Transportation announced Thursday that Interstate 70 in Licking County will undergo evening lane restrictions.

Officials say  I-70 will be restricted from three lanes to one lane in both directions between State Route 13 and the Buckeye Lake rest area on the evenings of Thursday, Friday and Monday.

Work will begin at 6:00 p.m. and end at 6:00 a.m. on all three evenings for repair of the Licking Trails Road bridge over the interstate.

The first two drives of the game looked anything but like an All Star game but after Travis Baldwin ripped off a 68 yard run for the game's first score in what proved to be the opening of the flood gates. For the second consecutive year the Licking County squad won against Muskingum Valley 36-20.

The Granville Post of the State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a motorcycle accident that resulted in the death of 73-year-old Richard H. Webster of Johnstown Saturday evening.

In Licking County several American Electric Power customers found themselves in the dark to start Monday. 

The company reported at one time 1,848 of its customers were without power. 

Also in Coshocton County State Route 715 remains closed at State Route 206 in both directions between mile marker 6 and 6.4 due to flooding.

American Electric Power reported that some customers woke up without service Tuesday morning.

AEP's outage map indicated that 399 of its customers were in the dark. At one time that number was over a thousand. Power has since been restored.

Coshocton County Sheriff's Dispatcher's said they also dealt with some power outages in the city of Coshocton. Power has since been restored in that area.

Licking County Sheriff's deputies responded to a medical emergency call at 5:47 a.m. Sunday morning on Fallsburg Road in Newark.

According to the Licking County Sheriff's Office, when deputies arrived, a man with a gun shot wound to his leg notified them that Christopher Taylor shot him and said Taylor was also holding the homeowners of 11222 Fallsburg Rd. hostage inside their home. The man was treated by medical personnel for non-life threatening injuries.
