The Licking County Health Department wants to stress the importance of vaccinations during National Infant Immunization Week. Health Commissioner, Joe Ebel, says these shots are effective tools in the fight against spreading diseases and preventing death.

The Licking County Health Department is teaming up with Licking County Safe Communities to help bring an end to driving fatalities.

There have been 16 victims in Licking County so far this year and half of those were the result of an OVI. Health Commissioner Joe Ebel says driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs can be lethal because it impairs your judgement, memory, and perception.

There has been a second H1N1 death in Licking County. The Licking County Health Department confirmed Friday that a 56-year-old Heath man died from the virus.

On October 21st a 53-year-old Newark man also died from H1N1.

Licking County Health Commissioner Joe Ebel says so far the Health Department has administered nearly 6,000 H1N1 vaccines.

They will have another H1N1 vaccination clinic Monday, November 16 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Watkins Middle School...

The Licking County Health Department is confirming its first H1N1 related death.

Health Commisisoner, Joe Ebel, says a 53-year-old Newark man was hospitalized at OSU Medical Center and died back on October 21st.

He says the health department just got lab confirmation yesterday from the Ohio Department of Health.

"I haven't seen the death certificate to know exactly if the H1N1 was a contributing factor or the primary cause of death, " says Ebel.

Licking County Health Department Commissioner, Joe Ebel, says while his department has found the West Nile Virus in a large group of mosquitoes, so far, there aren't any known cases of the virus being transmitted to humans.

Ebel says when testing, the Licking County Health Department looks for the number of mosquitoes in a given area, the type of mosquito, and if the West Nile Virus is prevelant.
