Marilyn Swope has held many titles over the years including 1st grade teacher, quilter and the first female Mayor of Zanesville.

The Women's Initiative Network hosted the "Spotlight on Marilyn Swope" open house at the Masonic Temple on Saturday afternoon  to recognize one of their most influential members. The event also served as a fundraiser to provide scholarship grants that help young women reach their goals.

The Village of South Zanesville is mourning the loss of the current mayor and long time volunteer firefighter after he was killed in the line of duty.

According to South Zanesville Fire Chief, Norm Mansfield and Fiscal Officer of the village, Chris Kerby, Terry Richard "Dick" Guss has tragically passed away due to injuries sustained from a Friday morning fall. EMA Director and friend, Bo Keck says Dick sat on several boards and was an influential member of the community.

City Council proposed an ordinance to combine about 20-acres of land owned by the City of Zanesville and about eight acres owned by the Port Authority at Monday's City Council Meeting.

"It's had a restriction on it for twenty-three years to be used as a recreational piece of property. The restriction came out in December so we decided with the port authority if we put their small piece of properly with our twenty acres together it will make a prime piece of property for somebody...

Zanesville City Councilman Jeff Tilton has been elected mayor of Zanesville.

Tilton, a Democrat, defeated Republican Rob Sharrer and Independent Randy Case.

Tilton received 2439 votes, to Sharrer's 2280 and Case's 420.

At the Zanesville City Council meeting Mayor Howard Zwelling announced the city has a one million dollar budget shortfall.

With income tax collection down the city will need to tighten its belt and cut some corners. To do that he is creating a special committee.

"We are putting together a committee and that will be Mike Sims, Bob Branford, Dale Rains and myself. We are going to meet twice a week and review all purchase requisitions," says Mayor Zwelling....
