At about 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday, part of Maysville Middle School was evacuated after a student reported a bomb threat that was found in a school restroom.

After spelling both his words correctly during Wednesday's preliminary rounds of the Scripps National Spelling Bee Maysville's Matthew Pitcock failed to advance to the semi-finals. 

Those chosen to move forward not only had to spell correctly on stage Wednesday, but had to also score well on a computerized vocabulary test.

The words Pitcock spelled Wednesday included philippic and solon.

Students in Southeastern Ohio showcased their scientific talents Saturday.

Maysville Middle School played host to the Science Olympiad Invitational, an event the school has participated in for four years. Organizer, and parent, Paula Slack said she's honored to work with such dedicated students.

A local school honors area veterans Wednesday morning.

At Maysville Middle School veterans, invited by students, were treated to songs and breakfast during a special event. One student taking part was the school's student council president who spoke about the importance of honoring those in the military.

"They kept out country free and they deserve it," explained Matthew Pitcock.

Maysville students are taking aim for a national competition.

Proud parents and members of the community stopped by Maysville High School Sunday afternoon for a spaghetti dinner fundraiser to help send the Maysville archery team to nationals in Louisville, Kentucky. Coach, Chris Skinner, says the team is made up of an impressive crop of students.

"I think these kids are self motivated, I don't think anybody in the state or even anybody in the country...
