The Morgan County Health Department is still waiting for results from the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta in connection with two cases of suspected bacterial meningitis. One 21-month-old boy died and a two year old girl is now recovering at home after being hospitalized last week. With the recent meningitis scare in Morgan County, a local doctor is reminding parents to make sure their kids are in good health.

Dr. Vicki Whitacre with the Zanesville-Muskingum Health Department said that while this form of Meningitis is rare, it's still important to take precaution. She said toddlers are especially susceptible to various illnesses since they tend to put their hands in their mouth a lot.

The Morgan County Health Department is reporting that a one-year-old boy died from what is believed to be a form of bacterial meningitis. Officials say they first learned of the case on Wednesday and immediately started an investigation. The department was notified that the patient died, but no confirmation is yet available to attribute the death to meningitis. The Health Department says a second probably case of meningitis has also been identified in a one-year-old girl from Morgan County....

Bacterial meningitis is suspected in the death of a Morgan County pre-schooler and has been confirmed in another pre-schooler who is now hospitalized in Columbus.

According to the Morgan County Herald, the pre-schooler passed away Wednesday. The Herald says the Morgan County Health Department has contacted all the people who may have come into contact with the two children and all school buses and Morgan Transit vehicles have been sanitized.

A meningitis case at Ohio State University Newark is renewing the need to get vaccinated to fight the disease.

The disease is seen most often in those ages fifteen to twenty-four and in those living in close spaces like dorm rooms and army barracks. While symptoms of the disease are similar to the flu Dr. Vicki Whitacre said there is a sign that stands out.
