The County Risk Sharing Authority (CORSA) met with Muskingum County commissioners Thursday, May 31st to discuss their stewardship report.

Virginia Shrimplin is the Marketing Manager with CORSA, she broke down the way the county is utilizing services and the way CORSA will reward the county.

It's been a little over a week since the Muskingum County Commissioners announced the closing of the Muskingum County Home. Thursday the Commissioners met with lawyers to make sure the proper procedures are in place.

Attorney Martha Sweterlitsch says one of the biggest concerns is making sure all of the residents have a place to go once the home closes. She says while many residents may already be Medicaid or Medicare approved, they may not yet qualify for long term care.

Muskingum County is looking to hire a bee inspector.

On Thursday the county commissioners interviewed Jack Head, who already inspects the hives in Belmont and Guernsey Counties.  He said it's important to check the colonies once a year for dangerous diseases.

"That's the number one thing that we're looking for when we get in there," said Head.  "It's highly contagious, and if you don't do something about it, it'll spread to the other hives in the area....

It's no secret that money is tight in Muskingum County, but agencies continue to work with the commissioners to make ends meet.

Representatives from the Muskingum Soil and Water Conservation District discussed its 2013 preliminary budget.  Administrator Lisa Crock said it's getting tougher to cut costs.

On Thursday the Muskingum County Commissioners opened bids for the Mount Sterling water project.

Muskingum County Projects Director Don Madden said the county has been working with the Village of Mount Sterling to replace its existing water supply with a new water line.

Muskingum County and the city of Zanesville have been allocated $445,000 as part of a grant that could help tear down abandoned and vacant homes.

On Thursday Community Development Director Sheila Samson provided the commissioners with an update on the grant, which is part of the $75 million Ohio received after the federal government announced in February a $25 billion settlement with five banks involved in foreclosure fraud nationwide.

Muskingum County is applying for a grant that could help tear down abandoned and vacant homes.

On Thursday Community Development Director Sheila Samson provided the commissioners with an update on the grant.

"The county and city combined have a lot of those properties," said Samson.  "This will just help us to alleviate some of the criminal acts going on at those properties, and it will assist with increasing property values in those neighborhoods again....

The Muskingum County Engineer's Office is getting ready to select a contractor to resurface the roads.

On Thursday the commissioners opened bids for the 2012 Asphalt Resurfacing Project.  MCEO Communications Coordinator Brian Taylor said the Shelly Company and Shelly & Sands Inc. bid on the project.

The Director of Muskingum County Community Development delivered updates on grant projects Monday.

Sheila Samson spoke to the County Commissioners about those grant projects and how they could be used within the county to fund local projects.

The Muskingum County Park District has been busy with new projects in our area.

On Thursday, Bonnie Dailey and other members of the park district met with Muskingum County Commissioners to discuss these improvements and provide updates.
