Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz has identified the victim of a homicide which happened around 10:50PM last night at 6677 McCaslin road in Nashport.

Deputies from the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office apprehended a thief Wednesday evening after he wrecked his vehicle and jumped into the canal to escape authorities.

The Muskingum County Sheriff's Office is getting ready for Halloween by checking on sex offenders and advising them not to give out candy. Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz says there are 152 registered sex offenders in Muskingum County and says deputies are paying close attention to them.

Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz confirmed on Friday that two search warrants were served at the Dairy Mart on Pine Street in Zanesville and at a residence in Roseville in connection to food stamp fraud.

Sheriff Lutz explained, "That was a joint investigation. Obviously of our drug unit in the city were the ones heading that up and working with some state officials on that investigation with food stamp fraud. So we're putting that together as we speak."

A suspect in a series of car break-ins taking place in the Buckeye Lake area is taken into custody in Muskingum County.

Captain Jeff LeCocq said Buckeye Lake Police chased 31-year-old Michael Slack into the county where sheriff's deputies joined in the pursuit.

The chase ended around 3:45 a.m. Friday when the suspect finally stopped on the Hamline Bridge.

Slack was taken into custody and given over to Buckeye Lake Police.

Officials from three different law enforcement agencies take part in a chase ending in Duncan Falls.

When it comes to threats involving school violence local officials said they don't see it often.

Sheriff Matt Lutz said they do see a lot of secondary complaints, where people see things on Facebook and report it. He explained that most of the time they find that people use the site as a place to vent. Charges have been filed in a Muskingum County fraud case involving well over a million dollars.

Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz says on March 19th the department began investigating criminal activities of 52-year-old Douglas Thompson of Pataskala. Lutz says they discovered an extensive and complex fraud case composed by Thompson while working for Tami Longaberger at her home estate.

The Muskingum County Sheriff's Office has located a second suspect in an Avondale stabbing incident.

Sheriff Matt Lutz  issued a warrant for 25-year-old Steven Adams.

The sheriff's office said that Adams was with 23-year-old Jamie Storts of New Lexington Tuesday morning. She's suspected of stabbing John Hannahs at his home at 4075 Roseville Road.

Hannahs is listed in fair condition at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital.

A Zanesville man is facing charges in connection with what authorities are calling a "Rolling Meth Lab”.
