For some of you in Zanesville this afternoon, the sound of explosions were heard. We now know the cause.

The Muskingum County Sheriff's office says the explosions can be traced to several men shooting at exploding targets near Bank Street. The Sheriff's Office investigated after receiving several calls from local residents reporting the sounds.

Sheriff's say the men were shooting legally but were asked to stop due to the number of complaints

A joint investigation between Zanesville Police and the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office resulted in the arrest of three people.

Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz said officers executed a warrant at 1265 Dillon Road and recovered more than 34 grams of heroin with an estimated street value of $6,800 as well as $5,500 in cash.

Lutz said drugs continue to be a problem in the county.

Authorities are looking for a Convicted Sex Offender.

45-year-old Mitchell Miller was convicted in Coshocton County back in 2002 for attempted gross sexual imposition with a victim under the age of 13 and for violating the conditions of his supervision and release from prison.

Detective Tim Matheney of the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office said it's uncertain as to whether Miller is still in the area, but that hasn't put a hault to the search for the fugitive.

A woman was taken to the hospital after crashing into a power pole Tuesday afternoon.

Muskingum County Sheriff's Lieutenant Mike LeCocq told WHIZ News that the Sheriff's Office received numerous calls about an elderly woman driving erratic while traveling northbound on Maple Avenue. 

About 5 minutes later, it was reported that the woman went left of center and crashed head-on into a power pole near the intersection of State Route 60 and Olde Falls Road.

A rash of local church break-ins have authorities asking the community for help.

According to Sergeant Detective Ric Roush, Detectives with the Zanesville Police Department and Muskingum County Sheriffs Office are currently investigating nine Church Break-ins that have occurred since April... seven of which took place in July. Roush said breaking and entering numbers have been down overall this year with the exception of churches.
