As expected, Muskingum County's investments continue to not gain much growth due to the economy.

Monday afternoon was the monthly Investment Committee meeting between the County Commissioners and the Treasurer's Office. The Muskingum County treasurer is reminding residents that the deadline to pay real estate taxes is coming up.

Tax payments are due Friday March 8th . Taxes can be paid in person at the office of the treasurer located in the Court House, at Community Bank if you are a customer or they can be mailed in, but the deadline is very strict and payments must be postmarked by the 8th.

Interest income for Muskingum County fell short of projections.

The County Treasurer said that the projections were 20-25,000 less than what was actually made. Friel said their interest income is based on what the stocks and money market accounts are doing can affect how much they earn in interest. She said they'll continue to watch the markets.

Commissioners met with the County Treasurer to update their current investment policy.

On Thursday, the treasurer and commissioners finalized their investment committee policy. The meeting took place to make sure the update policy will function well and that the policy committee continues to have the authority that they need to continue to invest for the county. An Interim Treasurer was sworn in at the Muskingum County Courthouse Friday.

Carol Friel was sworn into office at 3:30 Friday afternoon.

Friel replaces Phil Murphy, who resigned Wednesday in a letter left after hours at the Commissioners office.

The Muskingum County Commissioners accepted Murphy's resignation Thursday.

Friel said now that she has been sworn in, her top priority is to be more visible than her predecessor.
