A competitive fundraiser is taking place on Saturday to raise money for the Muskingum Valley Chapter of the Red Cross.
The 6th annual Guns and Hoses Fundraiser will take place at Riverside Park Saturday morning from 9 a.m to 3 p.m . The game is comprised of five teams that feature local law enforcement agencies and fire departments. In the past the teams played flag football, but this year they are trying something new.

The Muskingum Valley Red Cross' Executive Director said that it's important to make sure your smoke detectors are in working order. The detectors should be placed outside of each bedroom. It's also important when cooking that holiday feast to keep an eye on the food. Don't leave pans boiling or things frying unattended.
Helping others this holiday season can be as easy as taking a class.
In an effort to promote their health and safety program the Muskingum Valley Chapter of the Red Cross is offering a discount on their CPR and first aid classes as well as their relief kits. The classes are available to workplaces, communities and health care providers. Executive Director Marlene Henderson says it's never too late to get prepared for a potential emergency.

The organization helps families displaced by house fires and wintery conditions lead to more fires. The Muskingum Valley Chapter has been to four fires in the last four days. The best defense a family can have is a smoke detector and a plan of escape. Getting your family out alive is the most important thing and the Red Cross can handle the rest.

Thanks to an anonymous donor, the local chapter has a new home. The location on the East Pike near Norwich will better serve their newly acquired counties Noble and Guernsey. There is still plenty of work to be done to the space. Jack Dittoe is the Facilities Chairman and is overseeing the project.
