Locals woke up early this morning for a tasty breakfast to help the Muskingum Valley Red Cross.

It is the second earthquake the world has witnessed in two months. An 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck Chile early this morning.

Warmer temperatures are causing icicles to melt and fall off homes, but that can cause even more problems for homeowners if they fall near a gas line.

"If one comes down and you hear any kind of hissing noise, blowing noise, or, of course, if you smell gas, make sure you open a window, get out of the house, go to a neighbor, directly call 911, and then call the gas company, " says Keely Warden of the Muskingum Valley Red Cross.

People are still without power and another winter storm is moving in Tuesday and Wednesday. The Red Cross  want you to be prepared if you lose your power.

Julie Davis from the Muskingum Valley Red Cross tells us how to prepare for a power outage in a snow storm.

The Muskingum Valley Red Cross says it has responded to 39 local fires since July 1st of last year, and 25 people have suffered from eight fires in January alone.

Readiness and Development Coordinator, Keely Warden, says that number rivals the halfway mark of fires the organization dealt with this time last year.

"We are ahead of the pace, and we are a little bit worried about where we are going, " says Warden.

A Thornville family is homeless after a fire consumed their home.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. this afternoon.

WHIZ's Emily Baird has more.

"Upon arrival, we had the second and first floor fully involved, " saus Thornville Township Assistant Fire Chief, Rob Sands.

Sands, says flames were shooting from the home as crews raced up the driveway to the home at 7335 Township Road 87.

A New Lexington family receives help from the Muskingum Valley Red Cross when a fire breaks out in their home. The home of Howard and Kelli Dickerson and their two sons at 4434 State Route 13 caught fire Wednesday night in the kitchen area. The Red Cross is assisting the family by providing funding to go shopping and for groceries.

The Muskingum Valley Red Cross is trying to rebuild some funding.

Executive Director, Dan Hartman, says the red cross might not have a lot right now, but it is doing a lot with what it has.

The Muskingum Valley Red Cross is helping out a New Lexington man who lost his home Friday afternoon.

Executive Director, Dan Hartman, says the organization is providing clothing and food to Matt Plaisted.

Hartman says the 3595 Palmer Road home is a major loss, but luckily, he says Plaisted wasn't injured because Plaisted wasn't home at the time of the fire.

Hartman says Plaisted is currently staying with family.
