 A new ordinance in the city of Newark is proposing to allow bow hunting of deer with in the city limits.

Don Ellington, a Fifth Ward Councilman, says Newark has a serious deer problem and efforts through non-lethal means have not worked. The new ordinance would be similar to Granville's urban deer hunting program and require hunters to obtain an additional license.

Newark Police are telling residents to keep their pets indoors after a coyote attacked a dog and several more have been spotted in the area. The coyote attack occurred Thursday night on Village Green Court. Since the attack, many residents have reported seeing coyotes in the area. The Newark Police are working with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to capture the coyotes. If you see a coyote call the Newark Police at 740-670-7200.

A 19-year-old Hebron man has been indicted for arson and grand theft of a motor vehicle in connection with a September fire.

The charges against Harley McDonald the third stem from arson on Railroad Street September 21st, where a stolen vehicle was recovered.

Shane Cartmill with the Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office says there's no indication McDonald is involved in any of the other arsons that have occurred across Newark.

The State Fire Marshall's Office says there are now nine confirmed arsons in the city of Newark with one fire still under investigation.

All 10-fires have happened within a span of less than two weeks. The latest two fires occurred early this morning.

WHIZ's Emily Baird explains why these incidents have Newark residents on-edge.

"Who wants to have a fire next door to your house or wherever? So, it's definitely concerning, " says Newark resident Megan McLouth.

The Newark Fire Department is on the scene investigating two more fires this morning.

According to Licking County 911 dispatcher Tony Cavinio, authorities were called to a fire at 305 East Main Street around 2:15.

When they arrived at the home they found it on fire and also saw another home on fire a short distance away on Bolen Court.
Both homes were vacant and no one was injured in the fires.
