A local shopping event is giving local artists a chance to display their work while helping a good cause.

The 2nd annual Newton Township Fire Department Holiday Bazaar took place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday . The event had more than 40 vendors and many of them were local artists. One artist in particular says she loves having a chance to display her hand made paintings to the public.

According to the the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a white Buick minivan was driving westbound US 22 when the driver drove into the other lane and struck a gray Lincoln car.

"Looking at the crash scene, it's obvious the Buick was way left of center, the Buick even tagged the southern guard rail, he was that far left of center."

The Newton Township Fire Department responds to fire late Tuesday.

Lieutenant Josh Bryan said that a structure fire on US Route 22 around 11:30p.m.

Crews from Glenford and Somerset were called in to assist. The fire was contained in about 45 minutes and no one was hurt during the event.

The Muskingum County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting in Newton Township.

 Around 7:45 Sunday morning, 40-year-old Mario Moralez Sr. of Lima was shot as he was hunting near Fletcher Road. Moralez was a member of a turkey hunting party and was shot once with a 12 gauge shotgun by a 15-year-old boy in the group. A garage fire in Newton Township is being called suspicious, according to Lieutenant Mike Lecocq of the Muskingum County Sheriffs Office.

Lecocq said the fire at 7915 Old Town Rd. happened shortly after 9:30 Sunday evening. He said two separate calls came in- one in regards to the garage fire and another in regards to a truck fire, he said it wasn't until crews arrived they realized the incidents were one in the same.

A Muskingum County sobriety check-point stopped more than 600 drivers on Friday night.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol held a drunk driving checkpoint just south of Wal-Mart on State Route 22 in Newton Township. The plans for the operation were released the day before. Lieutenant Steven Rine said the goal isn't so much to arrest impaired drivers as it is to deter and educate.

A home is destroyed after a fire broke out in Newton Township Thursday night.

"I had just gotten up off the couch and happened to glance out the window and saw orange flames shooting off the back of the porch and I told my wife, her house is on fire and I hurried up and called 911," said Witness Michael Dailey.

A Zanesville man is seriously hurt after a one-vehicle crash in Newton Township on Thursday.

The accident happened around 3 p.m. at U.S. Route 22 and State Route 345.

Trooper Stephen Williams with the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol said that 26-year-old Jeffrey Dunwoody was traveling east on U.S. 22 near S.R. 345, when he veered off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, and went down a steep embankment.

An early morning fire forced two people from their home in Muskingum County.
 

Newton Township Fire Chief Allen Deaver says the fire broke out around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday at 3030 Thompson Run Road.
 

He says when firefighters from his department and South Zanesville arrived on the scene they found heavy fire in the living room.
 

Paul Greiner and Christina Havens were alerted to the fire by smoke detectors and got out of the home safely.

A rollover accident in Newton Township sends one man to the hospital.

It happened around 5:15 Thursday near 6845 Fultonrose Road. According to the Newton Township Fire Deparment, the driver's car left the roadway and rolled onto its top down an embankment.

The driver was taken to Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. Newton Township was assisted by Roseville emergency personnel at the scene. The Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
