A sudden burst of winter weather is keeping the Ohio Department of Transportation on its toes, and more could be on the way.

ODOT Transportation Manager for Muskingum County Raymond Dailey said crews were not expecting temperatures to dip into single digits overnight, which makes salt less efficient on the roadways.  Dailey said ODOT was still able to clean up the mess before the morning traffic rush, but now he's already looking ahead to the next obstacle - ice.

Southeast Ohio is expected to see its first snowfall Thursday night, and the Ohio Department of Transportation is preparing for what could be a messy morning commute on Friday.

Transportation Administrator for Muskingum County Raymond Dailey said his workers are getting the trucks ready by filling them up with fuel and checking the tire pressure.  He said the rain limits how much preparation can be done before the storm hits.

The Ohio Department of Transportation is alerting motorists of an upcoming road closure in Muskingum County.

ODOT officials say starting at 8:30 a.m. Friday , State Route 719 in South Zanesville will be closed for railroad repairs.
 

The road is scheduled to re-open at 5:00 p.m. Monday January 9th.
 

The railroad is located just east of the US 22/SR 719 intersection.
 

The posted detour will be US 22 and State Route 60....

Four roadway projects in Muskingum County will be reviewed for possible funding.

The Ohio Public Works District Sub Committee met Monday morning to discuss nine roadway projects needing attention. The committee selected four of the projects most likely to be approved for the Ohio Public Works funding. The final decision will be based on a number of criteria, including the need of the project, the area it affects and the readiness to proceed.

You might not have seen any construction on State Route 60 in Muskingum County over the holiday weekend, but the project will resume next week.

Ohio Department of Transportation District 5 Deputy Director Joe Rutherford said contractors will begin working on side streets that intersect the roadway on Monday.  He said resurfacing of Maple Avenue should start on September 19th and finish by October 31st.

The Ohio Department of Transportation has postponed a construction project on State Route 208 until next week.

Officials say work on State Route 208, a half mile outside of Adamsville, will now take place beginning Monday .

Crews will be constructing a roadside improvement project that will close the roadway from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Work should be completed by Tuesday, weather permitting.

The Cambridge Post of the State Highway Patrol reports that I-77 closed Wednesday night due to several accidents was re-opened at 1:00 am Thursday. ****UPDATED

 

As of 10:45 p.m. the Ohio Department of Transportation says the southbound lanes of Interstate 77 in Guernsey County have re-opened.

Spokeswoman Kate Stickle says an accident occurred on I-77 between Cambridge and Byesville.

The Ohio Department of Transportation, District 5 Deputy Director Karl D. Newman announces the passing lane of Interstate 70 eastbound between Underwood Street  and the Hamline Bridge in Zanesville will be restricted for maintenance work.

 Weather permitting the lane will re-open by 1:00 p.m Friday.

City and State officials are preparing for Phase Two of the State Route 60 Safety Project.

Thursday there was a public meeting held at Secrest Auditorium for area people to ask questions and give their input on the upcoming changes.
