Early voting made its Ohio debut in 2008, but according to a recent report, the extra days have not resulted in more ballots being cast.

Turnout statewide in 2008 was just one percent higher than in 2004 when there was no early voting.  In 2012, the year when Ohioans arguably had the most access to early voting, turnout was actually lower than in 2004.  Muskingum County Board of Elections Director Chris Hamill said the change also hasn't seemed to boost turnout locally.

Secretary of State Jon Husted spoke this afternoon at the Zanesville Rotary Club.

With April 1st being the first day for early voting, Secretary Husted talked about the importance of voicing your opinion and voting in the upcoming May Primary election.

One Morgan County polling location will see improvements thanks to the Secretary of State's Office.

The Center Township Fire Department received over $2,000 to install a 20 by 30 foot parking area that contains two accessible parking spaces, a small sidewalk and step. It also provides funs to put in striping and vertical signage.

Registered voters can expect to see an application in the mail Friday from the Secretary of State's office.

Director Chris Hamill of the Muskingum County Board of Elections said those wishing to vote absentee should fill out this form.

Hamill wants to make it clear that voters will be sent the application for an absentee ballot and not the ballot itself.

The date of Ohio's 2012 primary is still up in the air, and it probably won't be decided for another few weeks.

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted said the primary could be moved from May to March.  He said the reason for the switch is so Ohio voters don't get left out of the presidential nominating process, but there's an obstacle in the way.
