Around 34 million people are expected to travel during the upcoming holiday weekend.

The Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol says it's preparing for a higher volume of traffic, especially on Interstate 70. Starting Friday night, troopers say they will be looking for crash-causing violations.

"That's really what we plan for, to be out in numbers and to watch for that. (We) try to keep traffic slowed down so we can keep people a little safer traveling through the area...

It seems as though traffic has stalled quite a bit on Interstate 70 over the past few weeks, all due to accidents on the major highway.

But the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol says it's dealing with the same number of accidents on the roadway this year as it did this time last year. There have been 38 crashes so far, including a fatal crash that took the lives of three adults and two children back in June.

A school bus accident has claimed the life of a Nashport Elementary School student. 6-year-old Kasey King of Frazeysburg left for school this morning, got on the bus, and never made it back home.

It's the day before the Tri-Valley School District was supposed to break for summer vacation. Nashport Elementary School was celebrating Field Day, with planned games and activities, but a tragic accident along State Route 60 just after 8 a.m. in Nashport cut the fun short.

You will be hearing more of the phrase "Click It or Ticket" this month.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol wants to make sure people are protecting themselves while driving, but some aren't heeding the warning.

The warmer weather and official start to spring is prompting more motorcyclists to take their bikes on the roads, but the Ohio State Highway Patrol wants drivers to take some precautions.

"Pay attention to the other drivers. That's the big thing because you may see them. I will guarantee you that they probably won't see you. 99% of the time, they're looking past you because you're a smaller vehicle, " says Zanesville Post Commander Lt. Steven Rine.

The Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol says snow-covered roads and traveling at an unsafe speed led to the closing of one lane on Interstate 70 westbound last night.

A semi truck lost control around 10 p.m. Trooper Trenas Weaver says the driver went off the left side of the road into the median.

ODOT did close the passing lane until about 1:30 a.m. to allow crews to clear the scene.

Ohio traffic deaths fell last year, but rose in our area.

The Zanesville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol had 15 fatalities in 2008 and 22 fatalities in 2009. Despite the heavy snow storms of 2010, the Zanesville Post has had minimal fatalities.

 The Granville Post of the State Highway Patrol is on the scene of a 14 car pile-up. A dispatcher says 12 cars slide off Interstate 70 in Licking County and 2 trucks jack-knifed.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. just east of Ohio 310 near mile marker 119.

ODOT spokeswoman Kate Stickle says the incident isn't causing any lane closures but drivers should be prepared for major delays.

No injuries are being reported.

An Ohio State Highway Patrol cruiser is hit on Interstate 70 in Guernsey County this afternoon while the trooper was responding to a commercial truck in the median.

A Cambridge Post dispatcher says the trooper was out of the vehicle and aiding a truck driver who had jack-knifed into the median. He had his lights on a was attempting to slow down traffic when the dispatcher says a new jersey driver lost control of his vehicle, spun out, and hit the cruiser.

The Granville Post of the State Highway Patrol says last night's back-up on Interstate 70 was caused by two separate accidents.

It happened around 8:45 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near Gratiot.

Dispatchers say a Hummer that was pulling a trailor lost control and went off the right side of the road, striking a guardrail.

The second accident involved two cars. Dispatchers say one of the drivers slowed down for the crashed Hummer but the other couldn't, causing it to crash...
