Hunting in the city limits was a topic at Monday's Zanesville's Public Safety Committee meeting.

Mayor Zwelling asked the committee to allow hunting, specifically deer within the city limits. Public Service Committee Chairman Andrew Roberts says he along with other committee members have had residents approach them about allowing hunting, but as of now, it doesn't look like the city is going to budge.

Overtime is becoming a hot topic for Zanesville city workers.

The Public Safety Committee held a meeting Monday night to discuss budget issues regarding the Fire Department.  

"We've had an ongoing issue for the last several months with overtime and the Fire Department regarding staffing levels and vacation sick time," said Council member Andrew Roberts.

The Zanesville Fire Department's Assistant Chiefs and Lieutenants are forming a union.

At Thursday's  Public Safety Committee meeting Lt. Jeff Jadwin said the paperwork will be filed Tuesday, for the 12 firefighters to form a union. If they get the approval from the local firefighter's union they will join the International Association of Firefighters. If not, they will form their own union.
