A local church went green on Saturday in hopes of saving our environment one drop off at a time.

Members of Coburn United Methodist Church met this morning to host their sixth annual Go Green Recycle Event. Visitors were able to drive through the church parking lot on Maple Avenue. and drop off their unwanted items.

" A lot of computers have been coming in and there is small appliances, card board and a little bit of everything, " said Dennis Baker, Lead Pastor....

"Go green"... That was the mission for one local church here in the Y-city.
 

The United Methodist Church teamed-up with Goodwill to help recycle items like old computers, small appliances, and other items people don't know what to do with.

Muskingum County residents are invited to throw out any scrap tires free of charge.

The Litter and Recycling Center is collecting scrap tires until June 30th. The county was given $20,000 through a tire amnesty grant last July. They have about $8,500 left to spend of it.

"Those residents that have old tires laying around, bring them out here to get rid of them and get them off the property, that's the easiest way to dispose of them," said Muskingum County Commissioner...

Help support our local economy in Zanesville by bringing glass to a recycling event.

Owens-Illinois Glass is sponsoring a glass collection event Saturday, September 18. It's a part of the Glass Packaging Institute's glass recycling week where the goal is to educate people on the importance of recycling. Glass is unlike many recyclable materials.

At Saturday's Earth Day on the River in Zanesville was the City of Zanesville Litter and Recycling Office.

The office encourages every resident to do their part in helping the environment by recycling, which is as easy as calling the sanitation office for blue bags, filling them with recyclable and setting them four feet from trashcans on pick up days. Recycling cuts down on trash in landfills.

If you are planning to get rid of your Christmas tree soon, the city of Zanesville and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources is asking that you recycle your tree.

Fisheries Biologist, Michael Greenlee, says the two groups have been teaming up on this project for about six years and are still collecting between six and seven hundred trees each year.

Instead of sending that old computer to a landfill, a local company is offering a way for old PC's to be recycled.

Goodwill in Zanesville is launcing its Reconnect program to provide a place to drop off the old technology and keeping it out of the trash.
