As Hurricane Sandy prepares to hit landfall late Monday our own weather could be affected by this storm.

50 million people from the east coast to the Great Lakes are on guard. The National Weather Service warns people living in low lying areas and along the Lake Erie Shoreline to watch for flooding. Winds with guests up to 65mph are expected across Ohio.  These winds could cause power outages.

McDonald's held a grand re-opening of one of its' Zanesville restaurants Thursday night.

A ribbon cutting ceremony at the Maple Avenue location included Zanesville Mayor Jeff Tilton and other local officials.

This is the third restaurant out of four in Zanesville that is being remodeled at a cost of $1.5 million as part of a national program.

The Muskingum Valley Chapter of the Red Cross is looking for more teams to participate in its annual golf outing.

Development Director Troy Alford said this is the 23rd year for the Disaster Relief Golf Outing.

"Every year everyone really enjoys coming to this because it gets them out on the course, and it's for a great cause," said Alford.  "They know just by being there and having fun, they're also helping people in the community."

The thunderstorm related power outages Wednesday morning caused problems for some people in the area. So what's the best way to prepare for the next weather event.

The Muskingum Valley Red Cross which is expert in helping people who have suffered in a disaster – now has a problem of its own. Executive Director Marlene Henderson says someone stole one of their unmarked disaster trailers. She says it happened sometime between 1:15 p.m. and 3:13 p.m. Wednesday. With a decrease in blood donations and an increase in accidents, donating blood around the holidays is vital.

The east coast is facing another natural disaster - Hurricane Irene is heading for North Carolina, and the Red Cross is getting ready to provide relief.

Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood.

During the summer season the number of those donating drops and has already caused two blood types to drop to critical levels including O Negative and B negative. To draw attention to the need for donations, June 14th is marked as World Blood Donor Day. It's a chance for all to recognize that blood is essential to health care across the globe.
