The Muskingum Valley Red Cross is asking you to donate blood.

A blood drive will be held on December 30th at Secrest Auditorium in Zanesville from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The organization has teamed up with area businesses to help entice the public to come out and will be giving away one pound bags of coffee from Dunkin Donuts and $10.00 gift cards from Walmart.

According to the Muskingum Valley Red Cross, there have been 20 fires in the past four weeks.

The organization who covers Muskingum, Morgan and Perry counties has a disaster action team in place that's on call 24/7 to assist families in emergency situations.

With the help of The American Red Cross, people are reminded to send holiday mail for our heroes.

For the 4th year in a row, Pitney Bowes and The American Red Cross are teaming up to collect cards that will be sent out to U.S. military service members, veterans, and their families around the world.  Once the cards are mailed to the one main address in Maryland, Pitney Bowes will ship them out at no charge.

The Zanesville Fire Department is investigating an early morning fire.

The call came in around 3:25 at 332 Brighton Boulevard.  Chief Dave Lacy says the fire department stayed on the scene for two and a half hours until the fire was cleared around 6 AM.  The blaze started in a second floor bedroom.

"It originated around some electricity. Right at this point in time, we are just ruling this as an accidental fire and probable cause of electrical short circuit,"...

The holidays are here, but so are the hazards.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, each year emergency rooms treat about 12,800 patients for holiday-related injuries. The Muskingum Valley Red Cross is offering a few safety tips for homeowners to keep in mind as they begin decorating this December.

Emergencies can happen at any time.

The Muskingum Valley Red Cross says they knew three days earlier that yesterday's bad storm was on it's way.

The Muskingum Valley Red Cross is accepting applications through October 4th and will pick 12 individuals, ranging from an Education Hero to a Youth Hero.

Area emergency responders are brushing up on their football skills and getting set to take the field in this year's Guns and Hoses Flag Football Game.

The firefighters practiced their play calling Sunday afternoon. They've lost the last two matches and really want to take home the trophy this year.

The relief effort for the victims continue through the night..

While it's been five years since Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast, people are still trying to rebuild their lives and images of the cities they once knew.
