A Supreme Court ruling could change the way local law enforcement agencies conduct searches on prisoners... Even those being held on a minor offense.

This week the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a 2010 ruling stating that officers do have the right to strip-search inmates to prevent illegal contraband and weapons from being smuggled into jail.

Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz said the practice of strip-searching has been controversial for quite some time.

Three armed robberies in the last five days is keeping local law enforcement officers busy.

On February 9th, the Papa Johns on Maple Avenue was hit by an armed robber.  On February 12th, another armed robbery happened at the Tumbleweed restaurant on Monroe Street, and last night a woman walked into a Duncan falls BP claiming she had a pipe bomb, and demanded money.

The Fraternal Order of Police, F.O.P.A. and F.O.P. Auxiliary held their annual Installation Banquet Thursday night.

During the banquet, members of Zane Lodge 5, F.O.P.A. #16, and other distinguished guests, recognized outgoing officers, and swore in the new officers, including President, Wes Elson, who replaced outgoing president, Tom Porter.

Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz will be recognized as a 2012 Officer of the Month.

The honor comes from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. Sheriff Lutz was surprised with the announcement at the Muskingum County Commissioners Office.

Governor John Kasich called Sheriff Matt Lutz Wednesday night to personally thank him for containing the dangerous animal situation in Muskingum County.

Kasich spokesman Rob Nichols tells WHIZ the Governor wanted to express his gratitude to the Sheriff and his deputies for performing extraordinarily well under extreme circumstances. The Governor will be inviting the Sheriff to the State House to formally thank him.

A suspect in Monday morning's armed robbery of the Citizen's National Bank in Duncan Falls is under arrest.

Off duty Sheriff's Deputy Chris Hartman was on his way home from court and had joined the search for the suspect when he came across a man matching the description in the 8200 block of Old River Road.

Upon questioning  the deputy said the man became nervous and even more so when other deputies arrived. The suspect then took off running and was captured without incident...

Area emergency responders are brushing up on their football skills and getting set to take the field in this year's Guns and Hoses Flag Football Game.

The firefighters practiced their play calling Sunday afternoon. They've lost the last two matches and really want to take home the trophy this year.

The Muskingum County Sheriff's Office is warning the community about an annual summer scam.

Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz says someone will stop by your house and ask if you want your driveway paved or sealed. They will take your money and not finish the work that's promised.

"Here recently in the past week, some of these individuals, that have been known to do this, were in Southeastern Ohio down around Washington County," Sheriff Matt Lutz said.
