Snouffer Funeral Home held their Memorial Day Service of Remembrance this afternoon.

Families and friends gathered to pay tribute to men and women who gave their lives serving our country, as well as those who continue to do so today.

A non-profit organization called Wreaths of America is selling wreaths to be placed on the graves of veterans at Greenwood Cemetery.

Snouffer Funeral Home Director and WAA Location Coordinator for Muskingum County Brad McCune, said every year on Dec.14 at Noon, people from all 50 states participate in a wreath-laying ceremony to honor fallen veterans. If you would like to be a part of that, you can purchase a wreath for $15.

An influential local man is being remembered for his contributions to the community.

Bill Phillips passed away on Saturday at the age of 80. Phillips was the Chairman of Century National Bank's Executive Committee up until his death. This year would've been his 50th year with the bank. Throughout his career he held both the title of President and Vice President of the bank. A local funeral home feels honored to reach a milestone.

For the second year in a row Snouffer Funeral Home in Zanesville will take part in "Wreaths Across America".

Twenty years ago a wreath company in Maine decided to send their extra holiday wreaths to Arlington National Cemetary, where they were placed on military headstones. Since then the event has evolved to incorporate cemetary locations all across the nation, including Zanesville Memorial Park.

In 1992 a wreath company from Maine was left with extra wreaths close to the holiday season. The company sent the 5,000 extra wreaths to Arlington National Cemetery where they were placed on the military headstones.

That one act of kindness has translated into a national movement called Wreaths Across America. At over 500 locations including Zanesville Memorial Park wreaths will be placed on the graves of veterans.

One funeral home in Southeast Ohio is helping soldiers one cell phone at a time.

Snouffer Funeral homes has been collecting used cell phones since November. To date they've collected more than 420 phones.

"It's an extreme honor for us to help in this manor," said Funeral Home Director Josh Snouffer. "We thank our military everyday for the freedom they provide us. This is our way of giving back."

Each cell phone is refurbished by Cell Phones for Soldiers...
