Shoppers swarmed the Pick'n Save in Zanesville on Friday to stock up on groceries before the storm hit.

Assistant Store Director Rodney Price was lucky enough to have the day off, but he said milk and bread were flying off the shelves as people prepared for the worst.  Price said the store's atmosphere is always eerily calm once the snow starts to fall.

"Usually as soon as they mention the word snow, we start getting really busy," said Price.   "We...

The storm kept the Ohio Department of Transportation busy.  Twenty trucks salted and plowed Muskingum County roads through Saturday afternoon.

ODOT Transportation Manager for Muskingum County Raymond Dailey said the wintry mix made it difficult for crews to stick with a plan since there's different protocol for rain, sleet and snow.  He said ODOT always takes traffic volume into consideration when developing the routes.

"We have three different priority routes,...

It's finally starting to feel like winter in southeastern Ohio.  A mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain covered area roads and created dangerous driving conditions.

Coshocton, Guernsey, Muskingum, Noble and Perry Counties issued snow emergencies to keep drivers off the roads.  Sheriff Matt Lutz said Muskingum County was at a level two earlier on Saturday.

"To go to a level two, the roads have become pretty treacherous, and we are suggesting that only people who...

A sudden burst of winter weather is keeping the Ohio Department of Transportation on its toes, and more could be on the way.

ODOT Transportation Manager for Muskingum County Raymond Dailey said crews were not expecting temperatures to dip into single digits overnight, which makes salt less efficient on the roadways.  Dailey said ODOT was still able to clean up the mess before the morning traffic rush, but now he's already looking ahead to the next obstacle - ice.

Southeast Ohio is expected to see its first snowfall Thursday night, and the Ohio Department of Transportation is preparing for what could be a messy morning commute on Friday.

Transportation Administrator for Muskingum County Raymond Dailey said his workers are getting the trucks ready by filling them up with fuel and checking the tire pressure.  He said the rain limits how much preparation can be done before the storm hits.

"We won't be able to pre-treat since it's...

With the recent winter storms, snow days are beginning to add up for area schools.

Kevin Appleman of the Zanesville City Schools said they have now exceeded their third and final calamity day, which now means they must make up a day of school at the end of the year.

"I don't think it'll be too bad, it'll be fine, but then again I'm not a weather forecaster, I'm not sure how many more snow days we'll have but just to assure everybody out there, we look at it for the safety of...

With the help of other local agencies, Community Ambulance Service is overcoming obstacles despite the winter weather.

In preparation for winter storms, Director of Operations Phil Koster says the ambulance service brings in additional resources because they realize there will be an increase in emergency calls in regards to car accidents.  They also have to keep in mind that it will take longer to get to people who live in remote areas, so the additional staff and ambulances make...

It's been a day of digging out for residents in Southeastern Ohio.

Yesterday's snowfall has homeowners digging out their cars, driveways, and sidewalks.  Local resident David Bryan and his two friends kept busy this morning shoveling sidewalks for all of their neighbors.  They say anytime there is a measurable amount of snow, they are always willing to help.

"Pretty much snow shoveling everybody's walks. Figure people can use the help being it's so cold out and...

The winter storm is over and now we have to deal with slick roads, driveways and sidewalks. The Ohio Department of Transportation, City of Zanesville and Muskingum County plows are out in full force this Friday morning. Local law enforcement authorities say main roadways are being plowed, but remain snow covered and slick in spots. There have been a rash of accidents reported Thursday evening into Friday morning, but no serious accidents have occurred. Secondary roads are still snow covered...

The most basic piece of equipment for removing snow from a sidewalk is a snow shovel, but there are also other methods available that are less strenuous.

When the roads are covered with snow and ice so are your sidewalks and driveways.  Plows take care of those roads, but it's your job to take care of the rest.  Although removing snow can be a pain, it's important to use the right method.  Sunrise Do it Center Sales Associate Dennis Baldwin says traditional rock salt is...
