The Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol said nearly 400 cars passed through their sobriety checkpoint on Maple Avenue Friday night.

The checkpoint was held between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. just north of Kay Drive. Despite a large volume of vehicles, Lt. Matt Boyd said the troopers encountered virtually no issues with drivers.

A sobriety checkpoint will take place in Muskingum County on Friday. 

Lt. Matt Boyd says the safety event is funded by federal grants and is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers. 

There were 309 drunken driving related fatal crashes in which 341 people were killed last year in Ohio.  Lt Boyd says State Troopers make an average of 25-thosuand arrests each year in an attempt to combat these dangerous drivers.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Tuesday announced that troopers will operate a sobriety checkpoint this week to deter and intercept impaired drivers. The Granville Post says the county where the checkpoint will take place will be announced the day prior to the checkpoint and the location will be announced the morning of the checkpoint. The Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol will hold a sobriety checkpoint in our area Friday.

The checkpoint will take place on Pershing Road in Springfield Township between 8 p.m. and 12 a.m. 

This checkpoint is funded by federal grant dollars and is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers. 

Saturation patrols will also take place nearby in order to aggressively combat alcohol related fatal and injury crashes.

The Zanesville Highway Patrol says there will a sobriety checkpoint in Muskingum County Friday. Lieutenant Steven Rine says the location of the event will be announced Friday morning. Sobriety checkpoints are a safe and effective deterrent to impaired driving and are an ideal complement to our state’s enforcement efforts.
