Voters in Guernsey County took to the polls Tuesday to vote in a special election.

On the ballot was a 9.89 mill emergency additional levy for East Guernsey Schools.

The levy failed to pass with 835 voters against and 639 voters for the levy.

The May primary is one week from Tuesday. In Muskingum County it's being called a special election featuring just three issues.

On May 7th, the election will take place. Board of Election Director, Chris Hamill say only certain people will vote next Tuesday.

A local school district hopes its levy passes during the May special election.

East Muskingum Schools Superintendent Jill Johnson says they have a 1.3 million dollar renewal levy to provide emergency requirments for five years.

"We have continued to use that money for general operating including fuel, electricity and day to day expenses," Johnson said.

The school district says the renewal levy millage did not change.

The Muskingum County Board of Elections announced this week that there will not be a May primary this year but instead a special election.

There are no contested races this year but there are three levies voters in 25 precincts will vote on. Director Chris Hamill says issues in the West Muskingum and East Muskingum School Districts top the list.

A special election was held Tuesday in Guernsey County for an 8.62 Mill Levy for the East Guernsey Local School District.

The levy failed, with 766 votes cast for the levy and 1087 votes cast against.

Those living in the East Guernsey School District need to head to the polls Tuesday.

A special election is underway. Voters will be casting ballots for a tax levy.

The purpose of the levy is to provide the emergency requirements of the school district not exceeding 8.62 mills for 10 years.

The East Guernsey School District includes Buckeye Trail Schools.

The Muskingum County Board of Elections is preparing for their next project that is approaching this February.

There will be a special election on February 8th where the village of Frazeysburg will be voting on a fire levy that will provide fire protection.  Executive Director Chris Hamill says you have until February 5th to request an absentee ballot.  There is a total of 790 registered voters in Frazeysburg.

Some area voters are heading to the polls today in a special election. In Licking County two issues will be decided. The Lakewood Local School District is seeking a 9.9 mill 10 year emergency levy which failed in May. Voters will also decide an issue in the East Knox Local School District which is seeking 4.97 mills for five years for emergency requirements. The polls remain open until 7:30 Tuesday night.
