A New Concord 7th grade student has made in to the semi finals in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

12-year-old Harry Harmon is a student at East Muskingum Middle School and is moving forward in the event. So far Harmon has spelled correctly "apartheid" and "veloute" in the first and second rounds.

A local theatre put on a new production this weekend and there's still a chance for you to go see it.

Maysville Middle School student Matthew Pitcock, outspelled 69 other spellers at the Ohio Regional Spelling Bee in March, securing him a spot in the National Spelling Bee coming up on Tuesday.

"I competed in a school bee my 4th and 5th grade year and in my 6th and 7th grade year I went to regionals and did not win there, and then this year I won regionals and I made it to go on to nationals," said Pitcock.

Students packed Zane Grey Elementary School Tuesday to put the superior spelling skills to the test.

The annual Zanesville City Schools District-Wide Spelling Bee featured fifteen students from fourth through eighth grades from Bishop Fenwick Schools as well as Zanesville City's middle and elementary schools.
The top three finishers received trophies, and the top two spellers each received an additional gift certificate from Century National Bank.

About 20 Muskingum County students showed the community spelling is as easy as ABC.

Students from McIntire-Munson, Westview, National Road, Wilson, Grover Cleveland, Roosevelt and Bishop Fenwick schools competed Tuesday night at National Road Elementary for the title of district champ.

The winner was Frasier Baker of Bishop Fenwick. Second place went to Mac Masterson of Roosevelt and in third place was Katarina Hanifan of Bishop Fenwick.
