The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports less drunk driving arrests this Fourth of July.
Trooper Stephen Williams of the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol says locally they had around 600 stops, 400 of which were for speeding and other offenses. 75 were seatbelt violations, and only 5 were DUI arrests.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is increasing its efforts to enforce safety on the roadways and prevent drunk driving.
Reports show that last year there were 13,919 OVI related crashes on Ohio roadways, killing 397 people and injuring an additional 8,517. Sergeant Clark Felix said these numbers are unacceptable and need to be reduced.

A Zanesville man is taken by Med-Flight to a Columbus hospital after crashing his vehicle on U.S. 22 in Newton Township.

The State Highway Patrol said alcohol appears to be a factor in a crash that leaves one person dead Wednesday evening.
