The Highway Patrol will be looking for drunk drivers Friday night during a sobriety checkpoint in Muskingum County.

The highway patrol had its hands full with back to back accidents on U.S. 40 Thursday afternoon.

Trooper Todd Henry said at about 2:30 Loren Lobell was headed East in a Dodge Caravan when he attempted to make a left turn hitting West Bound Leanne Ballinger's Pontiac Bonaville. About 10 minutes later Trooper Henry said another two car accident took place at that same location.

The State Highway Patrol announced Friday the location of an OVI checkpoint in Fairfield County.

The checkpoint will be held from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. on State Route 204 just east of State Route 37 in Fairfield County.

The OVI checkpoint is funded by federal grant funds and is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

Two almost simultaneous rollover crashes in Duncan Falls tied up troopers and traffic Thursday evening.

Around 5 p.m. troopers were called to the corner of State Route 60 and Millers Lane for a three-car-accident. According to the State Highway Patrol, 62-year-old Judy Hooper of Duncan Falls was stopped in a Chevy HHR on Water Street and 48-year-old Tammy Reed of Duncan Falls was stopped in a Nissan Rogue on Millers Lane.

Muskingum and surrounding counties saw a slight drop in the number of fatalities this year compared to last year.

A map posted on the State Highway Patrol's website shows that Muskingum County had seven fewer fatalities than last year. Perry County also saw a drop with four less fatalities. Guernsey County saw three less fatal crashes. Noble and Coshocton Counties were both down only one fatality than last year and Morgan and Licking Counties were unchanged.

A man charged in connection with a fatal accident in Muskingum County this past spring appeared in court Wednesday for an arraignment hearing.
 

27-year-old Darnell Harris of Columbus went before Common Pleas Court Judge Kelly Cottrill where he pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and operating a vehicle while under the influence.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports less drunk driving arrests this Fourth of July.

Trooper Stephen Williams of the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol says locally they had around 600 stops, 400 of which were for speeding and other offenses. 75 were seatbelt violations, and only 5 were DUI arrests.

An accident leads to a break in the case of a missing Muskingum County teen.

According to the Muskingum County Sheriff's logs, the State Highway Patrol was investigating an accident around 10:00p.m. in Marietta Tuesday night involving 16-year-old Austin Rogers.

Rogers has been missing since June 3rd from the Avondale Youth Center.

The Highway Patrol said the teen was disoriented and had burns on his body. He was flown to Ohio State University Medical Center for treatment....

Memorial Day weekend has come to and end and the numbers are in.
 

The Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol was out in full force over the holiday weekend. State Trooper, Stephen Williams said, more than 600 stops were made, and about 400 of those were given citations.
