Locals visited some of the most historical sites in Zanesville as a part of the Putnam Holiday Open House.

More than a dozen historical sites and local businesses participated in the open house that will continue on Sunday. Visitors are able to speak with local historians about the founding of this area and its immense significance. Director of the Fine Arts and Historical Society of Muskingum County, Jim Geyer gave the public a detailed history of the Stone Academy.

The Stone Academy Historic Site and Museum is temporarily displaying historical photos and artifacts that were displayed at the John McIntire Library during last months 100 year commemoration.

"It is the first of a two step process. It is a temporary display, but we hope to make it into a permanent display upstairs when we get some more funding," said Jim Geyer, Pioneer Historical Society Director of Museums.

The public is learning more about the life of a man and his appleseeds.

As a part of the Zanesville 1810 Project Lecture Series, Professor William Kerrigan spoke at the Stone Academy Museum Sunday afternoon to discuss his research about the legend of John Chapman, or who is popularly referred to as Johnny Appleseed.
