Monday at City Council, the longest member, Ted Zakany, received a standing ovation after he finished his final night working for Zanesville.

Zakany has been a member of council for the last thirty years and during a brief speech he noted how much the Y-City has changed for the better during this time. Changes he mentioned he was happy about were new and stronger traffic light structures and the revamped 5th and 6th Streets that has given the Downtown area a new look.

Friends, family and co-workers celebrated Zanesville City Council's Council-at-Large member, Ted Zakany at his retirement party at Monday night. Zakany, a Zanesville native, started his career working in his family's grocery store and has served on city council since 1976. At 86-years-old and after decades of serving on city council, Zakany says he's most proud of passing legislation that benefits Zanesville's law enforcement officers.

Democrat DJ Dittmar, Republican Ann Gildow, and Democrat Ted Zakany have been elected for the new Zanesville City Council At Large Seats.

Dittmar came in with 2,276 votes, Gildow came in with 2,682, and incumbent Ted Zakany took in 2,462 votes.

Incumbent Republican Andrew Roberts lost his seat with 2,049 votes.
