Alpacas roamed more than 180 acres of land at a local farm day.

In conjunction with National Alpaca Farm Days, the Alpacas of Spring Acres Farm in Zanesville, hosted a community event for residents to become more familiar with the animals. Tuesday's speaker at the Noon Rotary Club of Zanesville discussed the need for an alpaca industry and how it would drive back business to the United States.

"Our alpaca farm is a breeding farm," said Jaime Morgan, Marketing Director of The Alpacas of Spring Acres. "Currently in the United States, there's probably a little over 300,000 alpacas and we need a million to create an industry here in the United States."

The Alpacas of Spring Acres opened its farm to the public as part of National Alpaca Farm Days.

Nearly 100 visitors showed up to the farm on Big-B Road over the weekend to take a tour and see the livestock up close.

Farm hand Jaime Morgan said educating the public was the primary focus of the weekend.
