A year ago, 5-year-old Ava McClelland, born with a cervical spine deformity, would have never been able to ride a horse.

"She had a surgery last year to decompress her cervical spine and before that she was walking on her knees and she could write her name and feed herself. And during the surgery last year, in the middle of it, she just lost everything," said Ava's Mom, Nicholette McClelland. "When she came out of surgery, she couldn't move even a finger."

Breaking Free, an organization serving children with both physical and developmental disabilities for children through therapeutic riding, is expanding to a new indoor arena. Founder and Executive Director of Breaking Free, Linda Lake, says the first thing a child gains through Breaking Free's programs is a friend, and says she hopes to offer that experience to more children.

As part of the McDonalds of Zanesville's 'Lovin' The Communities We Serve' program, they are offering free advertising to one non-profit organization every month. Breaking Free, a riding center that gives disabled children a sense of freedom and independence, is May's recipient.
