A state screening panel has unanimously recommended Muskingum County Commissioner Brian Hill become our area's state representative.

Hill will fill the 94th-district State Representative seat that was vacated when Troy Balderson was appointed State Senator.

The screening panel will recommend Hill to the full House Republican Caucus Thursday morning. The caucus will take a vote, and then he will be sworn in at 11 a.m.

Troy Balderson says he is happy with the decision to be the new 20th District Senator.

Balderson was appointed to the position Tuesday, and says it is great to have the respect of his colleagues and constituents.

"It's been a nerve racking last 48 hours." he said. "I've gotten a lot of nice compliments, a lot of nice phone calls, a lot of nice e-mails. It's been hectic, probably a couple hundred phone calls, but that part of it is the fun part."

Troy Balderson has been appointed State Senator for the 20th District.

Balderson was appointed to the open seat of Jimmy Stewart who resigned in June. Balderson's term officially begins tomorrow at 1:30 after the Republican Caucus takes an official vote. He will be sworn-in before members of the Ohio Senate on the floor of the Senate Chamber.

The 20th District serves Muskingum, Morgan, Noble, Guernsey, Coshocton, Athens, Meigs and Monroe counties.

State Representative, Troy Balderson, joined others today to commemorate those who have fallen in the line of duty.

Community members joined at the Frazeysburg Cemetery this afternoon where Balderson shared the story of soldier, Christopher Snider, the first to die as part of the Boston Massacre. State Rep Troy Balderson made a stop this morning at a child care center.

Balderson read to children at the Zanesville Day Nursery in an effort to raise awareness of the importance of reading. We took the opportunity to ask Balderson about state's new budget.

The Ohio Legislature has passed Senate Bill 5.

The bill would limit collective bargaining rights for 350,000 public workers. The full house approved the measure late Wednesday afternoon on a 53-55 vote. Then later Wednesday night the Senate voted to approve the altered bill 17-16.

The measure affects safety workers, teachers and a host of other government personnel. It allows unions to negotiate wages but not health care, sick time or pension benefits.
