The United Way's 2-1-1 Information Call Center received surprising results in their monthly report for January.

The free service received more than 1,000 calls last month from parts of Muskingum, Morgan and Perry counties. Call Center Manager, Audrey Foster says she saw a spike in the number of people requesting food services.

The United Way wants to fund more non-profits this year.

The United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties will hold a training date for non-profits seeking funding for 2014-2015. The meeting will cover how to completely fill out all sections of the application and how to write a letter of intent on how funding will be used.

It took over 280 hours for the United Way of Perry, Muskingum and Morgan counties to review applications for programs seeking funding.

When complete the nine member committee chose 22 programs that will receive help from the agency. This year over $653,000 will be distributed. Unlike in the past the United Way opened up funding to any non profit that focuses on income, education and health.

One local organization seeks a member to join their team.

The United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan counties is looking for a Harvest Corps member. This employee will help update the 211 database as well as working with clients. They'll also be in charge of the free tax prep clinics offered by the United Way.

The Ohio United Way celebrates a major milestone and honors some local volunteers during their celebration.

Each year the Ohio United Way holds a legislative luncheon and this year in celebration of their 100th Anniversary they decided to honor 100 United Way heroes.

Our local United Way nominated three volunteers that made the list including Dean Cole, Cindy Linn and Brian Wagner. Each have served multiple years with the Muskingum, Perry and Morgan organization.
