Zanesville city residents may see an increase in their water bill by March of next year.

Today the Ways and Means Committee discussed options to help fund a $1.9 million engineering inspection cost for the new water plant.

"The issue that came up was whether to borrow more in order to delay a rate increase, where more interest would be paid by the city or borrow less, which would make the rate increase sooner," said Public Service Director Mike Sims.

Zanesville City Council is approving a first reading of an ordinance for the water plant project's construction inspection and administrative services.

Zanesville Public Service Director, Mike Sims, says the initial cost was just under two million dollars, and Sims says he felt the city could come up with 1.1 million of that over the next three years.

The water plant upgrade project in the City of Zanesville will need additional funding -- to the tune of $1.9 million.
