Young girls from around the area were able to shop for a free dress for their upcoming prom at the 5th annual "Once Upon a Prom" dress giveaway. The event was held at the Muskingum County Welcome Center and was sponsored by the East Side Community Ministry. There were over 600 dresses to choose from, all of which were donated by members of the community and by Jillian's. Local produce is now dominant at the Zanesville Farmers Market.

Wednesday at the Zanesville-Muskingum County Welcome Center, several vendors were on hand ready to sell their locally grown fruits and vegetables.

Farmers Market President Mark Barnhart said the lack of rain and excessive heat caused problems in the beginning resulting in many crops being brought in from out of town.

But now, Barnhart boasts that area farmers are seeing the fruits of their labor.

Despite the jump-start to the growing season, the hot weather is stunting the growth of some locally-grown produce.

Wednesday's Farmer's Market at the Zanesville-Muskingum County Welcome Center saw an increase in vendors compared to last week, but some fruits and vegetables aren't fairing as well as others.

Farmers Market President Mark Barnhart said some farmers have resorted to small irrigation systems to keep from losing their crops.

One of the benefits of the unseasonably warm weather for local farmers has been a quicker yield in produce.

While some canceled their weekly trip to the Zanesville Farmers Market because of the heat, others filled the parking lot of the Zanesville-Muskingum County Welcome Center reaping the rewards of the mild spring.

President Mark Barnhart said the reason much of his produce has yielded results several weeks early is because he took advantage of an early growing season.

More than 200 trees, wreathes and decorative items will be auctioned off as part of this year's Festival of Trees.

All donated items will be auctioned off this Friday from the Welcome Center in Downtown Zanesville. Vice President of Zanesville Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce Kelly Ashby said each item comes with a special incentive.
