The Zanesville Police Department responded to a possible breaking and entering Thursday afternoon.

Captain Tony Coury says officers were called at around 1 p.m. to the Wheeling and Ceramic Avenue area about a man breaking into a vacant home. Officers arrived and surrounded the residence as the man inside tried to escape.

The Ohio Attorney General's Peace Officer Training Academy is here in Zanesville this week. The virtual training puts officers in real-life situations, where they are forced to make critical decisions.

"Use of force, judgemental decisions, how quickly the scenarios can develop, we expect one thing to happen and then something else happens, so again it's just opening the eyes to how bad situations can become," training officer, Andrew Russell said.

The Zanesville Police Department is investigating a shooting.

It happened early Saturday morning on Pershing Road.  Police said a male was shot in the head.  He was alive when first responders transported him to the hospital.

Police said the incident is pending investigation, and no other details are being released at this time.  We'll continue to bring you more information as it becomes available.

A budget is now in place for the City of Zanesville.

Monday night the city passed a budget that will allow the police department to get three new police cruisers and repair the roof of the fire house. It will also help replace aging water lines.

Zanesville Police are investigating a possible shooting incident.

It happened around 8:30 Tuesday night in the 1000 block of Greenwood Avenue.  A detective at the scene told WHIZ that there's at least one victim.  He or she was transported to a hospital with unknown injuries.

The detective also said there might have been another shooting in South Zanesville Tuesday night.  He also said police do not have any leads right now.

Zanesville police say an area woman remains in critical condition at Good Samaritan hospital after a shooting incident.

Chief Eric Lambes says it happened around 5:15 Thursday evening at 1127 Lafayette Street. Chief Lambes says 50 year-old Margaret Miller was shot in the chest by her 42-year old husband, Dwayne following an argument. She was then locked in a bedroom. Mrs. Miller was able to call out to neighbors for help and authorities were notified. Mr. Miller fled the home on foot...

Local law enforcement work to tie a robbery suspect to other open cases within the county.

With assistance from the Muskingum County Sheriff's the Zanesville Police have arrested 37-year-old Teddie Hunter. Investigators believe that Hunter not only robbed the BP Station at the corner of Maple Avenue and Brandywine Boulevard, Monday night, but robbed the Speedway on Blue Avenue January 24.

The Zanesville Police Department is investigating an early morning robbery.

It happened at the Speedway on Blue Avenue.

Detective Sgt. Harry Taylor says a suspect entered the business and demanded money from the cashier.

He says no weapon was shown.

Detective Taylor says the suspect fled the store in a mid- size red two door sedan.

The suspect is described as a white male with a mustache, between 25 and 35-years-old, medium height and thin build.

Zanesville Police said an incident on Larzelere Avenue is under investigation.

It happened around 11 p.m. Monday at the Larzelere Apartments, which is part of the Zanesville Metropolitan Housing Authority. Police said it was first reported as a stabbing, but the investigation revealed otherwise.

A Zanesville Police Officer will face disciplinary action after a compromising photo surfaces.

The photo is currently making the rounds on social media websites. It was taken January 17 in downtown Zanesville on 6th Street around 5 to 6 a.m. It shows Patrolman Brooks sleeping in his vehicle while on duty. Chief Eric Lambes said the picture speaks for itself.
