A Zanesville police officer is turning in his badge after 25 years of dedicated service.
On Thursday, Steve Jones was escorted in the Zanesville Police Department's new squad vehicle to his retirement party in the municipal courtroom.
"It was kind of a surprise," said Jones. "I think everything will sink in. I'm a little apprehensive about retirement, but I'm over 50, and it's just time to go."
Reports of purse snatching are increasing in Zanesville.
Zanesville Police Chief Eric Lambes said the most recent incidents have occurred at the Pick n' Save on Howard Street and Krogers on Maple Avenue.

Bystanders at a Zanesville grocery store help police nab a robbery suspect authorities say injured two women.
According to Lt. Tony Coury with the Zanesville Police Department, a man grabbed a woman's purse in the parking lot of the Pick-N-Save on Howard Street around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon. Coury says in the struggle for the purse the victim was injured.

Zanesville Police responded to an accident Thursday afternoon when an elderly driver lost control and speed through Rex's Express Car Wash on the Maysville Pike.
It happened at about 1:30pm 79-year-old Russ Campbell was going through the car wash when he said his vehicle malfunctioned causing him to accelerate into the car in front of him and loose control.
Officers are continuing to investigate a weekend robbery at the Gabriel Brothers in Zanesville.
Detective Sergeant Ric Roush said a 23-year-old male employee was in the parking lot Sunday morning when a suspect hit him with a small, silver hand gun and then took-off with an undisclosed amount of the store's cash.
"It appears the victim was struck in the chest area with the gun," said Roush."(Victim) received no injuries and suspect took off."
A man remains in stable condition after being shot last Tuesday in the chest.
Zanesville Police are now releasing the name of the victim, 25 year-old Thomas White of Zanesville. Detective Sergeant Ric Roush said White was living at the 507 Thurman Street address in Zanesville when he was shot in the surrounding vicinity. White remains in the hospital.

The Gabriel Brothers Department Store in Zanesville was robbed Sunday morning.
According to the Zanesville Police Department it happened around 11:20am. The suspect was armed and fled on foot into a wooded area on the North-West side of the property. Police say they were unable to find the suspect, who remains at large as of Sunday afternoon.
More details were not immediately available. The situation remains under investigation.
