Texting while driving is on the rise even though states are scrambling to ban it.

New Federal Safety data shows texting while driving increased 50% last year. Lieutenant Steven Rine of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said distractive driving has always been an issue, especially as technology increases.

"We promote anything that promotes traffic or highway safety," said Rine. "We just say pay attention while you're driving, focus on getting from point A to point B ....

One of the busiest holiday travel times of the year is now underway.

The Thanksgiving Holiday week is the most traveled time of the year, and you can expect to see the Highway Patrol out in full force.

Numbers are in from a recent saturation, where local authorities swept Muskingum County looking for any criminal activity.

 One person is dead after a crash early Sunday morning in Muskingum County.

The Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol says it happened near milepost 3 on SR 60 around 3:00 a.m. 

Troopers say the driver, 60-year-old  Ricky Kirby of Malta and 63-year-old John Jones of Zanesville were heading south on SR 60 when their car went off the side of the road, hit a guardrail, and then overturned ejecting Kirby and killing him.

A Zanesville man will serve two years in prison for charges stemming from a high-speed chase.

According to the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol, a trooper attempted to pull 25-year-old Harold Small Junior over on Interstate 70 near the Adamsville exit on August 24, 2010.

The Zanesville Highway Patrol says a 79-year-old woman was killed and another person was injured in a two vehicle accident this morning in Zanesville. It happened just before 8:30 at the intersection of Dresden and Richey Roads. A Zanesville woman reported missing Monday morning is found dead in the Licking River.

Zanesville Police Captain Miller said the family of 50-year-old Mary Knipe reported her missing to Zanesville Police around 4am when the Dialysis Center called and said she failed to show for her 2am appointment.

A two car accident shut down part of State Route 719 Thursday evening and sent two to the hospital.

Trooper Todd Henry from the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol says a green Saturn was stopped for a red light around 5:15 at the intersection of 719 and June Parkway in South Zanesville when a red Cavalier failed to stop.

A Zanesville man pleads not-guilty to charges related to a high-speed chase.

24-year-old Harold Small Junior appeared in Muskingum County Common Pleas Court Wednesday and pled not-guilty to a felony charge of failure-to-comply and two misdeameanor charges of driving under suspension and having no motorcycle endorsement.
