Family and friends are paying their last respects to a longtime Zanesville School official.

Over 1,500 people attended the calling hours held for Darrell Lear at the Snouffer Funeral Home in Zanesville Tuesday evening.

After battling cancer for several months, Lear passed away at 63-years-old on January 1st at the Genesis Hospice Morrison House.

Genesis- Bethesda Hospital is welcoming Zanesville's first baby of 2011.

At seven pounds 10 ounces and 21 inches long, Ki'Mani Cannada was born at 8:27 p.m. on Monday.

His mother Beverly Gonzalez said she was thrilled to finally have a baby boy; she already has a daughter, Amayah, who is 11 months old.

Even though she now lives in Cleveland, she said she wanted to have her son back in Zanesville at Bethesda, where her first daughter was born.

To make way for the Scarlet and Gray, two teams in the Blue and White played Monday. It was Zanesville that outlasted Granville, 53-37. In a game played a day early to avoid the Sugar Bowl. the Blue Devils were sweet--on both ends. Rosecrans not only extended their winning streak to nine games in a rown and remained perfect but they put up 52 points in the first half of the Holiday Classic Championship game to win easily. Zak Kirkbride scored nine points in the first three minutes of the game to help lead the Bishops into the new year with a perfect record.

The Muskingum Valley Red Cross is asking you to donate blood.

A blood drive will be held on December 30th at Secrest Auditorium in Zanesville from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The organization has teamed up with area businesses to help entice the public to come out and will be giving away one pound bags of coffee from Dunkin Donuts and $10.00 gift cards from Walmart.

To borrow a phrase from Mark Twain, the rumors of Zanesville's demise have been greatly exagerrated. The Blue Devil boys basketball team returned to their winning ways after a two game skid, handling Massillon Washington 71-61. It was the highest scoring output for the Devils this season. Senior Cole Carpenter leading the way with a career high 25 points and 10 rebounds, good for his second double-double of the year.  The Muskingum County Sheriff's Office is investigating a possible accidental stabbing at 4140 Roseville Road in Zanesville.

There seemed to be a lid on the basket at Jimmy Allen Gym for the Zanesville Blue Devils as they fell in their second staright game. The Devils only shot 30 percent from the field in the loss that saw Newark knock off Zanesville for the second time in three years. Zanesville will next hit the court against Massillion Washington on Monday December 27.
