As Zanesville City officials look toward 2011, they are faced with a significant shortfall in the city budget. In a meeting, the budget committee discussed various options.

The projected shortfall for 2011 is approximately $930,000. This means that the current budget cuts for 2010 would carry into 2011.

"That also assumes that all our current vacancies which we haven't filled and we're not going to fill for next year, even with that, we're still $930,000 short," says...

The following areas will be affected:

The Zanesville Fire Department will be flushing fire hydrants this week in the following areas:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 12: North of Adair Avenue, East of Maple, including Euclid Avenue, Taylor Street, Dresden Road and Highland Drive.

Some locals are walking for those in need.

The Muskingum-Zanesville CROP Hunger Walk was held at Zane's Landing Park as a part of a national cause to help raise awareness and funds for international relief and development, and to also fight against hunger.

"The crop walk helps people who, we walk because they walk, there are people that have to walk everyday for clean water if they even have it available," said Co-Coordinator Gwen Mendenhall.

The Zanesville Fire Department is continuing to flush fire hydrants this week.

On Wednesday the following areas will be affected:

  • Linden Avenue
  • Van Horn Avenue
  • McConnell Avenue
  • Taylor Street
  • Dresden Road
  • Ridgewood Circle
  • Military Road areas

Work will start at 7:30 a.m. and should be completed by 2:30 p.m.

Residents in these work areas may experience discolored water and reduced pressure.
