Zanesville Mayor Howard Zwelling is appointing a temporary replacement to the position of City Treasurer.

The position became vacant when the former City Treasurer, Walter "Butch" Norris, announced his retirement. His last day is today.

So, Swelling appointed Paul DuBeck Jr. this morning.

"I'm very excited that everybody's showing the confidence to appoint me temporarily. I just-we'll see what happens after this, " says Dubeck Jr.

Skateboarders around Zanesville will have to wait for improvements to the Interskate Skateboard Park.

Mayor Howard Zwelling announced tonight at city council the $34,000 in grant money was not awarded to Zanesville for improvements for the skate park. Zwelling asked council to foot the entire $68,000 project, but the request was voted against, leaving Mayor Zwelling disappointed.

A former South Zanesville man is in a Texas jail after allegedly kidnapping a nine-year-old girl.

Charles Eugene Butcher II, who was convicted of child enticement charges in Muskingum County in 2004, was arrested Friday morning by the Austin Police Department.

Corporal Scott Perry says Butcher took the young girl Thursday morning as she walked to her bus stop for school. Perry says Butcher then took her to his apartment where he bound her arms and kept her in a closet.

All 12 local high school bands, competing in this year's Bonanza of Bands, are earning recognition and some special awards.

They gathered at Zanesville High School's Sulsburger Stadium to each perform a handful of pieces in the 47th annual event.

Zanesville's Band Director, Kelley Ryan, says the Bonanza of Bands is the oldest running marching band competition in the state.
