Thursday evening, a seven-year- old boy was struck by a car while trick or treating.

The Zanesville Police Department reports that at approximately 6:30 p.m. a young boy darted into the middle of the street near the intersection of Ridge and Schaum Avenue, where he was hit by a red vehicle traveling on the road. A neighbor says she witnessed the incident first hand and says she saw the boy get flung across the street.

Zanesville police have released more information about a shooting incident on Sharon Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

Captain Tony Coury says at around 4:15 p.m. officers were dispatched to a house at 1614 Sharon Avenue, where they arrested four people. Coury say this is not the first time that officers have been called to this address.

Starting Monday, construction at the Dresden Point on Maple Avenue will likely cause you more headaches. A portion of Maple Ave. is already down to one lane and Zanesville Police Captain Tony Coury said drivers should prepare for even more daily delays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. near the Bethesda Hospital and the Dresden Point construction sites. Five woman accused of being prostitutes are off the streets thanks to an undercover sting by the Zanesville Police Department.

Capt. Tony Coury said after recent complaints from downtown area business owners, ZPD conducted an undercover sting using an informant and arrested Misty Dawn Taylor, Morgan Jackson, Jennifer Toombs, Donna Schrack and Ashley Lombardi this past week. The Zanesville Police and Fire Departments are kicking off Fire Prevention Week with a joint open house at the fire station.

The two organizations hope that the public learns what they are capable of doing for the community, where their tax dollars are going and gain knowledgeable information about fire prevention and crime at Friday's family outing.

Traffic was temporarily slowed at the intersection of Brandywine Boulevard and Northpointe Drive on Saturday due to a two vehicle car crash.

A new dispatch center is currently under renovation at the Zanesville Police Department, and before it's completed, they want to make sure they have everything they need for the community to successfully contact dispatchers.

There were a reported 48 break-ins last month alone.

According to the Zanesville Police Department, the break-ins span throughout the entire city. Captain Tony Coury says of the 48, there have been 10 break-ins to garages and out buildings, and 3 have been in the area of Taylor and Bell Streets.

Everything from lawn mowers to power tools have been stolen. Coury says the cause for the increase is most likely due to high drug usage in the area and the poor economy.

Captain Tony Coury says an undercover police officer arrested 83-year-old Russell Smith of Roseville Tuesday afternoon. Smith was convicted of 1 count of menacing and Judge William Joseph sentenced Smith to 90 days in jail. Coury says Smith wasn't trying to grab anyone, but possibly attempting to "entice" someone into his car.
